Duplicate issues are created when using JEMH and JIRA Data Center

Problem

If you have massive email volume (mailbox perpetually contains > 00's of emails, and/or they are large (ie take time to download) then the following could affect you:

Data Center (7.2.9 / 7.3.6 tested, probably earlier releases too) can cause concurrent retrieval and processing of emails from a common mailbox.  See related Atlassian JRA's below:

  • https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRASERVER-65197 : JIRA Data Center Cache replication stops due to Heartbeat jobs failure

  • https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRASERVER-65581 : JIRA creates duplicate issues when the standard mail handler has to process a large number of emails or large amounts of data.

Solution

There is currently no solution to this issue, we await the completion of JRASERVER-65581 so that JEMH can be locked to processing on a single node at a time.
