Cant stop reporter being added as a watcher (JEMH-790)

We were using a pre release version of JEMH in the past.The way alerts were sent out in 4.3.x version of JIRA, watchers were sent most updates. The Reporter is not added to the watchers list by default. Since upgrading to JIRA 5.0.6 and the most recent version of JEMH, Reporters are automatically being added to the Watchers list. Is there a way to prevent this?

I apologise if there's an obvious answer, I've tried looking everywhere.
