Providing a partial site-backup for local debugging

Why a site-backup?

Sometimes problems will not be obvious and can't be easily reproduced.  In this scenario, a partial site backup can provide the configuration context to locate and fix problems.

Steps

• create a full site backup – https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/Migrating+JIRA+to+Another+Server

• restore the xml data to a standalone instance (remember to disable email via command line) – https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/Restoring+Data

• In the standalone instance:

  • create an admin account for me (admin/admin)

  • delete projects other than the one we are concerned with (MM?)

  • delete all mailserver entries so I cant send/poll your servers

  • install an eval license over the top before export. I dont need your license

  • do a site XML export

  • no attachment data will be necessary
